A third of the food produced globally each year is thought to be wasted or lost, according to the Food & Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (UNFAO). According to the Global Food Waste Index 2021, India came in second place, only behind China, with 68.8 million tonnes of food wasted, with a value of almost 92,000 crores and annual growth rates of 8% to 10%. According to CSR Journal's estimation, the amount of wasted food produced in India is comparable to the amount eaten in the UK. Supermarkets, hotels, food processing businesses, restaurants, and weddings are the main offenders of food waste in India.
